Wild Arms 4 - probably too high profile a series to be included in this list, but I'm gonna mention it anyway because it's very much the black sheep of the series-despite being so, so good. Easily one of my all-time favorite battle systems. EG an axe has a short range but wide arc, whereas a bow has a very long and narrow, needle-shaped arc. The game is structured like a typical JRPG, but the combat system is more like an SRPG, only everything (even basic attacks) is based on radials and has a specific depth and breadth. Arc the Lad: Twilight of Spirits - Really solid, if archetypal story told with extraordinary earnestness, the biggest appeal of TOS is the amazingly innovative combat system.
